Third Year Undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering at UC Irvine with a Passion for Robotics, Aerospace, and STEM Education
Hey there, I'm Hambik Margoosian, a mechanical engineering undergraduate currently navigating the exciting world of aerospace at UC Irvine. My journey into engineering started with a love for filmmaking, but the call of mechanical engineering opened up a path that perfectly blends my creative spark with technical intrigue.
Having transferred to UC Irvine, I'm currently knee-deep in coursework and an exhilarating project—the Flapping Wing Micro-Air Vehicle (FWMAV). Picture this: a quadcopter drone taking flight, but it is not the whir of propellors you see or hear, it is the high frequency flapping of four dragon-fly inspired wings. I'm part of a dynamic team of 20, exploring ways to boost its thrust and power efficiency.
In the lab, my recent focus has been on comparing the stability of fully clapping wings, partially clapping wings, single flapping wings, and traditional quadcopter propellers. Yes, it involves a 3D motion capture system, and it's as cool as it sounds! We're pushing boundaries, aiming for optimal performance and redefining what these little flying wonders can achieve.
When I'm not immersed in drone dynamics, you can find me at UC Irvine's Office of Outreach Access and Inclusion, sharing my passion for education as a tutor.
Looking forward, I'm not just chasing a Bachelors and a Ph.D. ; I'm chasing possibilities, innovation, and a chance to make a real impact in the aerospace realm.
Excited to share this journey with you!
